Managing Self-Doubt: Moving Forward Even When You Question Yourself

Let’s be honest—self-doubt creeps in when we least expect it. It whispers that we’re not ready, not good enough, not equipped. I’m walking through that space right now. Even with years of healing, personal growth, and faith behind me, I still find myself questioning if I’m capable of what’s ahead.
But here’s what I know to be true: self-doubt is not a sign you’re failing—it’s often a sign you’re growing.
Grounding Yourself in Truth
When your mind spirals with worry or fear, grounding in truth is key. What has God already brought you through? What strengths do you forget you have when you're overwhelmed?
In moments of uncertainty, I pause and remember the truths I’ve seen proven time and time again: I am resilient. I’ve overcome hard things before. God has never failed me. These reminders don’t erase the fear—but they do quiet it enough to keep going.
Trusting God's Plan
As a Christian, trusting God's timing and purpose gives me peace in the unknown. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding… and He will make your paths straight.'
That verse holds me when my plans feel unclear or when imposter syndrome sneaks in. It reminds me I’m not doing this alone. God sees the full picture, even when I feel stuck in the fog.
Using CBT to Reframe Negative Thoughts
Clinically, I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) techniques to help myself and my clients work through unhelpful thinking. Here’s a quick example:
**Negative Thought: 'I don’t know what I’m doing.'
**Truth Reframe: 'I may not know everything, but I’m willing to learn. I’ve figured things out before, and I can do it again.'
Identifying the distortion (like all-or-nothing thinking or catastrophizing) and challenging it with truth creates space for self-compassion and courage.
You thoughts are not truths. You do not have to believe every thought you have, You have the power to change them, redirect them, and remove them.
What I'm Currently Walking Through
Right now, I’m in a season where I’m launching new services, stepping further into entrepreneurship, and it’s scary. There are days I wake up questioning if I’m really capable. But I keep choosing faith over fear. I journal. I pray. I challenge the thoughts. And I take small, brave steps anyway. Because growth doesn’t come without discomfort—and our purpose is always bigger than our fear.
Encouragement for You
If you’re working on your goals and feel self-doubt rising up—take a breath. You’re not alone in this. Your dreams were planted in you for a reason. It’s okay to question yourself. Just don’t let the questions stop you.
Ground yourself in truth. Challenge the lies. Lean into your faith. And keep moving forward, even if it’s messy.
You are more capable than you know. And what’s ahead of you is worth the stretch it takes to get there!
